As an artist I am entirely self taught, having started drawing from the age of eleven when growing up in Kent. Now retired and having recently relocated to Basingstoke I spend much of my time developing my painting skills and trying out new mediums and techniques.

Overall I would say I am a Marine Artist as this covers a broad spectrum from studies of the sea, sky and ships of all kinds, to harbour, beach and coastal scenery. My art work however can be quite diverse; I often paint pictures of places I have visited and lived, both at home and abroad. I make use of quick pencil sketches at the time and working from my photographs. In addition to this, I have ventured into wall murals, house plaques, slate paintings and pub signs. But if I am honest it is the beauty of sail that offers compositional and tonal possibilities that I find hard to resist.

My paintings are nearly all in oil on canvas but irrespective of painting medium or subject matter, the joy, learning and experimenting curve never ends.
